Water Flow
Why Check Your Homes Water Flow?

A water flow test measures the flow of water at a faucet or faucets to determine if the system will meet typical water usage needs for the modern home owner. Low water flows can be a nuisance as well as a sign of other plumbing system problems.
Key's services include conducting Water Flow Tests in the home.
What Determines Water Flow?
Adequate water flow at the point of usage can be affected by the water pressure, the diameter of the supply piping, the condition of the supply piping and the length of the piping runs in the building. For well systems it can also be from the size or condition of the holding tank or the rate at which the tank is being replenished by the well pump.
How Much Water Flow Does a Home Need?
As a rough rule of thumb, today's families use about 50 gallons of water per day per person. That's about 200 gallons per day for a family of four. Unless there are special local conditions to prevent it, a private water system should be expected to supply three gallons per minute of water for an hour in an existing home.
What Does A Water Flow Test Prove?
A water flow test is not a certification of the water system nor does it evaluate the condition of the equipment associated with the water supply system but merely gives an indication of what the measurable flow of water was at the point of usage on the date of the inspection so that the home owner can better determine if the system meets their intended needs.
